Information you enter
The decoder, order builder, diet card and the Korean menu maker run in your web browser. What you type or select is not sent to our server, with the one exception below. Photos you pick in the menu decoder are read on your own device by Tesseract, an open-source text reader, and are never uploaded; the reader's files are downloaded from MenuSum the first time you use it. Some tools remember your last choices in your browser's local storage; you can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
AI menu translation (Korean menu maker for restaurants)
- Only when someone presses “AI로 번역하기” (translate with AI) in the menu maker are the names of the menu items that are not in our dictionary sent to MenuSum's translation server (Cloudflare Workers) and from there to Anthropic's Claude API, which translates them. Prices, the restaurant name and anything else entered are not sent.
- Translations are stored on the translation server (Cloudflare Workers KV) so that the same menu name can be translated again without a new request. They contain only the menu name and its translation.
- To enforce the daily usage limit, the server keeps a one-way hashed value derived from the visitor's IP address — it cannot be turned back into the address — for up to 2 days, then deletes it automatically. The IP address itself is not stored.
- Anthropic, PBC and Cloudflare, Inc. are based in the United States. Please do not put personal information (names, phone numbers) in menu names.
Server logs
Our hosting and network providers may automatically record technical information such as IP address, browser type and time of visit for security and operation.
Visitor statistics (Google Analytics)
To learn which dishes and tools are useful, MenuSum uses Google Analytics, a web statistics service from Google LLC.
- What it collects: pages viewed and time spent, how you arrived (search, link), device and browser type, approximate region, and whether a tool was used, a phrase was shown full screen or played aloud, a dish image was saved, or which on-site menu or link was used. The menu text you paste, and the diet and allergy choices you select, are not sent to Google Analytics, and we remove the part of web addresses after "?" (except utm_ campaign tags) before anything is sent.
- How: through Google Analytics cookies and the Google tag on our pages. We only see aggregated statistics that cannot identify you.
- How Google uses this information: How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- To opt out, block cookies in your browser or install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. All tools keep working.

- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google My Ad Center, or opt out of third-party vendors' cookies at www.aboutads.info.
