How it works
The decoder knows 261 dishes and 242 words that appear on Korean menus and food labels — cooking methods like 볶음 (stir-fried) and 구이 (grilled), portions like 1인분 and 곱빼기, and jargon like 마약 (“drug”, meaning addictive). It finds the longest match it can, so 김치볶음밥 is recognised as a dish, and unknown names are split into words it knows.
Photos are read by Tesseract, an open-source text reader, inside your browser — the photo is not sent anywhere. The first photo downloads the reader once (about 3 MB). Clear printed menus work best; handwriting, decorative fonts and shiny boards are often misread, and prices can come out wrong, so check the text in the box and fix it if needed.
